| Crazy Hat Night at Tenterfield last night |
What a fun night we have had at the Central Hotel. Our beautiful hosts Tony, Julie and Paul put on a beautiful meal and even surprised everyone with a beautiful desert. The lovely Renee (Puppeteer) and Norm along with Kath and Kim even helped serve all the meals.
Tonight's fun therapy was our Regifting Auction. The items were aplenty and the Fine Master was our Auctioneer. Bidding was high on items such as toilet seat warmers, bicycle pizza cutters, soccer balls, bicycle baskets and spokes to name a few. In total a massive $3,500.00 was raised by our amazingly generous riders and support crew. A special thanks must go out to Big G who bid a massive $500.00 for a Glen Innes tartan scarf (donated by the Publicans) - thanks Big G, so very generous.

Winners of tonight's Special Jerseys were:-
Joker Jersey - Eric - for riding the whole day with his back brakes on.
King of the Mountain Jersey - Sarah - for volunteering to be the green team's racer up Bolivia Hill and was the only girl out of all the teams who volunteered to do this.
Most Supportive Jersey - Maxxie - who was roped in by a friend to do the ride (who then pulled out last minute) and who helped King immensely by dropping back to lend a hand and all the time whilst wearing his Hawaiian bra all day !
Support Crew Joker Jersey - Kath - who thought the seat pole that we drove to Guyra to buy was something to help Blake with his diabetes.
Support Crew Most Supportive Jersey - Don and Trish - who have been a massive help to everyone, especially Kath and Kim in the Supply Van.
The Fine Master handed out fines tonight to Lianne for spilling hot water on Ash's foot, Renee for being out of uniform, Shari for getting their car bogged and Peta for being the navigator. Funniest fine went to Norm for trying to buy one of the kid's (from Deepwater School) can of tuna off them.We were excited to catch up with the girls from the Glen Innes Support Group - they are always so supportive of us and we love seeing them.
Everyone has hit the hay now to get a good night's sleep for tomorrow.
Until the next blog,
Donna.
Well Day 6 guys, you are nearly home......... Every year you all just amaze me with the tenacity and endurance you all show. Bike riders and support crew alike, you are certainly a special bred due to the selflessness you show to others. The difference you make to our kids and families is very tangible. Only last week we had a dad call who lost his child to cancer seeking our help and support. Through the money that you all raise we are able to offer that support and hopefully provide some respite to a family who is going through the unimaginable. Your efforts are also providing 30 x 4-6yr olds a mini camp in a couple of weeks where they will have a fun filled day in magical lands where unicorns, fairies and pirates live. We have a crazy Halloween family camp in Oct which has over 10 families going to enjoy a few days where they can forget about cancer for a while. We have visits to the Wiggles, Play School, Pepper Pig, The reptile Park, The Play ground for the adventurous skate boarders and trampoliners, Flying model airplanes, riding around on Segways and so much more in the next 4 months. There is also the CQ funded Child Life Therapist at John Hunter Children's hospital who is making a difference to the development and medical understanding of the children who are currently on the Oncology ward at John Hunter. These lovely ladies give these children a voice in a world surrounded by equipment, tests, medication and adults. Our respite houses are also providing a much needed rest and break for families, our wonderful puppets are educating school communities and our Mobile App is giving relevant information to kids who are just starting this journey called cancer. You guys are all a part of that and without your efforts and deep pockets it simply would not happen. Be proud of this as you deserve to be just as all of us back home are proud of your achievements. Stay Safe and see you all at Muswellbrook. Michelle Y xxx
ReplyDeleteHello all you beautiful people! I know by now you are tired and sore and each day is another challenge. I hope you are feeling all the love and support from your family and friends and it is helping you to get through each day. I have been privileged to be at this event every year as a rider ( that only last for 1 year) and then a support crew member. Year after year it has never ceased to amaze me the courage and determination that you all show to get through. The support and encouragement that each person shows to their other team members is an inspiration ( or inspirating). Just remember " Its for the children" as I am sure you have heard from a certain someone many times before. But you are all truely special people and are changing peoples lives every time you get on those bikes. To the wonderful support crew you are the glue that holds it all together and I know how hard the job is, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have to be helping a cause that changes so many lives. There are not to many people out there who have bigger hearts than you guys do and I am certain you will work tirelessly till the end to make it run smoothly. None of this would all happen without the huge amount of time and dedication that King puts into this ride every year. CQ is lucky to have you. Brian try to be nice to the riders this year and not fine them to harshly. Norm I hope they are providing you with you daily ice cream and everyone is enjoying your toast each morning and I miss my bear hugs from you. Muma C I can see your smiling face at 4am each morning and your colourful outfits each day. Bradley I hope there are not to many rubber chooks being strung up inside the ark and you and Donna have not had to many arguments. Queen and Ash hopefully you have not had to dress to many of the " Kempy wounds" this year. I am sure you are looking after everyone as you always do. Kath and Kim keep the troops feed and watered and try not to get lost as I seemed to have been able to do every year. I am sure you are doing an amazing job. Last but not least is my amazing sister Donna you spend every day working tirelessly to make other peoples lives better. You are an amazing leader and the kindest and most caring person. I cannot imagine over the years how many peoples lives you have touched. You are an angel here on earth and will forever be my hero. So everyone only 4 days to go. Look after each other, ride safely and most of all have fun. THELMA/ KIM / MAREE xxxxx
